Welcome to CGRER's forecast page for the ORACLES Campaign

ObseRvations of Aerosols above CLouds and their intEtractionS (ORACLES)
Planned deployment period is from August 29st to September 30th, 2016.

The Center for Global & Regional Environmental Research
at the University of Iowa is providing daily chemical weather forecasts in support of this experiment.

This is a collaboration with NCAR ACOM
The two systems are meant to provide complementray information using configuration of The Weather Research & Forecasting model (WRF) coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem). Anthropogenic emissions were taken from HTAPv2.2 emission inventory. They both run out of GFS, but with different configurations (e.g., horizontal resolution, cloud microphysics scheme, aerosol scheme, feedbacks) and initialization (UIOWA initialized from latest GFS, NCAR; NCAR has 4 days of spinup with FNL with nudging above the cloud layer) so smoke plumes and clouds could look different.
